Altcoins Altcoins are alternative cryptocurrencies to Bitcoin that were developed after Bitcoin's success.
Bitcoin A digital currency invented in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto.
Blockchain A digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers. It is the underlying technology behind many digital currencies.
Cryptocurrency A digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. It operates independently of a central bank.
Decentralization The distribution of control or decision-making across multiple participants in a network. Digital currencies are often decentralized.
Fiat Currency A currency that is issued by a government and is not backed by a physical commodity, such as gold or silver.
Mining The process of validating and adding new transactions to a blockchain. Miners use specialized hardware to solve complex mathematical problems.
Smart Contract Self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into lines of code. They automatically execute once the conditions are met.
Token A digital asset that represents ownership or utility in a blockchain network or ecosystem.
Wallet A digital or physical device used to securely store private keys for accessing and managing digital currencies.
