A measure of the rotational effect of the force, calculated as the moment of force multiplied by the length of the lever arm. The product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force to a reference point.
A pair of forces equal in magnitude, opposite in direction, and parallel but not collinear, causing rotation without translation. The perpendicular distance between the line of action of the force and the axis of rotation.
The state in which the sum of clockwise moments is equal to the sum of counterclockwise moments around a point. Same as lever arm, the distance from the axis of rotation to the line of action of a force.
The point about which moments are calculated, often chosen for convenience.
